Worship without Singing?
Family Jules just sent me this great article from BooMama about a service that they had at their church without singing!
You'll love the honest way she writes about her experience: "I was still a little squirmy - couldn't we sing, you know, just a little bit? Just a smidge?"
And you'll be touched by her conclusions: "...sometimes, in worship, I get it backwards. Sometimes, in worship, I get it all wrong. Maybe it's because I find myself more interested in what we're singing than what God's saying. Maybe it's because I respond more to my emotion than I do to His Truth. Maybe it's because, in a way, I worship a god I've created instead of The God who created the universe, The God who created me."

Great article, thanks Jules for sending to Pat. The article makes me feel a little anxious just thinking about it. No Music!

Okay. WEIRD. I clicked over here because I've seen your link several places, and lo and behold you're quoting me. Pretty cool. :-)
There's a link on my blog to the sermon that followed the "spoken word" service - it was strong. STRONG. And I WAS uncomfortable. But I needed to be.
One reason why the service was so powerful was because there was no build-up. You know how we do in churches sometimes: "IN TWO WEEKS - A WORSHIP EVENT THAT WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE!" :-) But there was none of that.
Okay - I've rambled enough - thanks for the link, though. I'm officially encouraged.

My wife Jacinda, who leads worship with me got nodules once a couple years ago. She couldn't sing or even hum for 6 months. We both learned a lot through her not being able to "worship" the way that she was most accustomed to.
"when the music fades..."

Ian...
I believe the original post on BooMama was from August 2008 ("Then Sings My Soul").
Hope that helps.
