The Most Bizarre Show on TV...

Have you seen Mr. Meaty? The theme song is snappy.

All God's creatures, fresh off the grill...
So come on down to Mr. Meaty's
Where friends meet to eat meat!

I watched it the other day with my youngest blond boy. Bizarre.

Check out a little clip from Mr.Meaty HERE, or check out Mr. Meaty on Nick.com HERE (podcast coming soon...)

Must Reads...

Two books have just come to my attention and have subsequently rocketed to the top of my "must read" list. They are... In Me Own Words: The Autobiography of Bigfoot, and the follow-up to it, Me Write Book: It Bigfoot Memoir.

You may remember a past post about my encounter with Bigfoot. Now, you and I can read about the big one in his own, simple (yet direct) words. Take, for example, this except from the first book:
I am not Chewba. Me think Chewbacca jerk. He ride Bigfoot coattails. He think he cool, but he not. He phony loser with no class. He all messed up on crack, me think. People think me Chewbacca sometimes. No! Me have job. Bad Wookie. Bad.
Or how about this from his memoirs:
When young fan come up to Bigfoot and say "you inspire, want be just like you!" it warm me heart. Then I reach into pocket, pull out fist size rock and smash they skull in. No want the competition. It a tough world, Junior.
That is fine literature, my friends.

Where did a week go?

Whew!

I started the week thinking I was going to work harder at posting and then it was today all of a sudden!

So for today's post, I'm directing you to a great looking website for a friend's ministry called Revolution. Bobby Triplett is the lead pastor of this 20-somethings ministry at the crossing church in Tampa, FL.

Check the site out HERE, and be sure to take a look at their blog HERE.

I Hate Liver!

Liver cancer, that is!

This is my friend (and guitar player in my band), David. He is pictured here wth his wife, Laura, and me, as Santa. Davd spent last year going through surgery and chemo treatments for colon cancer.

After finishing his course of treatment, it was discovered that he had liver cancer. It was caught early and the tumor is small. Daivd left today for California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco for surgery tomorrow.

If you think about it, would you say a prayer for David (and his wife Laura, and son, Dewey)? Thanks!

Amazing!

I wrote last week about my friend Bob (shown here with me dressed up as Santa Claus... shhhh - don't tell the youngest blonde boy). I told youin my last post that my friend had passed away.

One of the hardest things to deal with was that Bob was not a believer. It really hit me that you simply must take the time to share Jesus with your friends. Even though Bob had sat through countless Christmas and Easter service and heard the gospel, I had not taken he time to talk to him personally.

So his death was a blow on a lot of levels - a lost friendship, as well as knowing that he was probably spending an eternity apart from the Lord.

At his memorial service, one of Bob's friends, Brian, shared about how he felt the same way - that he needed to talk to Bob about Jesus - before Bob died. Every time he went to talk to Bob about the Lord and eternity, there were a bunch of people around.

Then Brian told of the one time that there weren't any people there. He told of how he prayed for Bob. Then he told how he asked Bob if he would like to ask Jesus into his heart. At this point Bob had lost the ability to speak, but he nodded, "Yes," and Brian was able to lead Bob to the Lord.

As Brian told this story at the service, I was up on stage and just about went into ugly cry (along with many of Bob's friends who had felt the same way).

I am so thankful that my friend is waiting for me in heaven. We didn't lose Bob on Sept. 10. We now know right where he is.

The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly

It's been a while since I blogged. I have been pretty buried ramping up for this fall's ministry. I am pretty stoked about what I think the Lord might do through the people I minister with. More on that as it unfolds.

On another note, I had a good thing happen, a bad thing happen, and an ugly thing is about to happen.

First the good thing: my Dad got baptized a couple Sundays ago. Very cool. Prayer does work - and it pays not to give up. I was a little bitter that Dad sprung it on me the night before (he is about 4 hours away, so there was no way I could get there to see it).

It has been wild to see my Dad grow in his faith. A few weeks ago we were talking about the fact that he attended the Willow Creek Summit that his church hosted. He attended it! Not as a helper. All by himself! That is so cool. It was surreal to hear him talk about how much he enjoyed Bill Hybels and Patrick Lencioni... he even liked Sting!

Wild!

The bad thing that happened is that a friend and saxaphone/flute player from church died from CJ disease. It happened so suddenly. One week he was playing. The next he was not doing so well. The next week he was worse... then he was gone.

Bob was about to retire. We were going to be golfing buddies. He was a consummate musician and a true gentleman. I can't wrap my head around the fact that he's gone. It really has me rocked. Not in a doubt-your-faith sort of way. More like a why-him-why-now-why sort of way. It was just too quick with no time for goodbyes.

Bob played at my 40th birthday party with his band. What a gift. Here is some of his music: playing sax on Fragile and flute on What a Wonderful World.

I'm really missing, you, buddy!

And the ugly? Well, that's me in a Speedo on the water this weekend with my friends on our annual houseboat trip. I can't wait. We leave in the morning. I'll blog more when I get back (and maybe have some pictures).
