The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly
It's been a while since I blogged. I have been pretty buried ramping up for this fall's ministry. I am pretty stoked about what I think the Lord might do through the people I minister with. More on that as it unfolds.
On another note, I had a good thing happen, a bad thing happen, and an ugly thing is about to happen.
First the good thing: my Dad got baptized a couple Sundays ago. Very cool. Prayer does work - and it pays not to give up. I was a little bitter that Dad sprung it on me the night before (he is about 4 hours away, so there was no way I could get there to see it).
It has been wild to see my Dad grow in his faith. A few weeks ago we were talking about the fact that he attended the Willow Creek Summit that his church hosted. He attended it! Not as a helper. All by himself! That is so cool. It was surreal to hear him talk about how much he enjoyed Bill Hybels and Patrick Lencioni... he even liked Sting!
Wild!
The bad thing that happened is that a friend and saxaphone/flute player from church died from CJ disease. It happened so suddenly. One week he was playing. The next he was not doing so well. The next week he was worse... then he was gone.
Bob was about to retire. We were going to be golfing buddies. He was a consummate musician and a true gentleman. I can't wrap my head around the fact that he's gone. It really has me rocked. Not in a doubt-your-faith sort of way. More like a why-him-why-now-why sort of way. It was just too quick with no time for goodbyes.
Bob played at my 40th birthday party with his band. What a gift. Here is some of his music: playing sax on Fragile and flute on What a Wonderful World.
I'm really missing, you, buddy!
And the ugly? Well, that's me in a Speedo on the water this weekend with my friends on our annual houseboat trip. I can't wait. We leave in the morning. I'll blog more when I get back (and maybe have some pictures).

I got to talk to Bob for the first time at your birthday party and I really enjoyed getting to know a little about him. All of a sudden, he's gone. I am really saddened by the news. Please represent for me tomorrow at his memorial. I won't be able to make it. Thanks.
Praises for your dad.
I also agree with Hale. Words alone paint enough pictures.:)

Please continue to post pictures of the kids on the lake! But, please...no pictures of you in the speedo! :)
Such wonderful, awesome news about your dad and so extremely sad to hear about Bob's passing. I knew that he was very ill but wasn't expecting him to go that quickly!

That is so exciting about your dad. And to plug into the Summit on his own - wow!
Like you, I too will miss Bob. To celebrate his life on Friday will be a sad day for me, but I am sure he will be playing his sax/flute everytime the band plays.
The verdict is in - please no pictures, I do not think my brain could handle the visual.

I am so excited about your dad! I am blessed just reading about Bob. Time here is short, time with him in eternity is LONG!!!
I promise you to continue to make sure you get great gifts at re:create if you absolutely DO NOT NOW OR EVER show a picture of you in a speedo. Just the thought kind of gives me a mental thought I don't need.
:)

Hi Pat,
I met your dad when he was still dripping wet with the baptism waters of the Pacific. Great day of celebration! But boy was it cold!
